So the countdown is on, I will be travelling to Japan in just a couple of weeks!
[tminus t= “13-12-2018 10:00:00″ before=” style=”carbonlite”]If you are seeing this, it means that I am already on my flight to Japan![/tminus]
My itinerary has me flying out of Ottawa’s Macdonald–Cartier International Airport (YOW) on December 13th. From there, I will be making a quick stop over at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport (YYZ) before embarking on what is sure to be a mind-numbing 13+ hour flight into Haneda Airport International Terminal (HND) in Tokyo, Japan on December 14th.
The plan is to stay in Tokyo for a few days to meet up with my travel buddy, someone you should all be familiar with, Shyla (if you haven’t, go follow her Japan blog! I’ll wait here while you do). Then, from Tokyo, we head south before looping around back up north. The final stretch brings us back to Tokyo for about a week. My hope is that Shyla will be able to get me through the trip without getting into too much trouble.
27 Day Japan Itinerary
- December 13-14: Flight from Canada to Japan
- December 14-16: Getting accustomed to Japan time (Tokyo) & Yayoi Kusama Museum (on the 15th)

- December 29-30: Kanazawa
- December 28-January 9: Back in Tokyo
What am I looking forward to?
This will be my first trip to Japan and I’m very excited to be seeing it first hand. My father works for Honda so I remember seeing photos of his visits to the country when I was a child. Through him, I had some opportunity to see the culture (however briefly). I am looking forward to experiencing a culture so different from our own and to experience it with someone who speaks the language is going to be something special.
Here are some of the things on the agenda that I am looking forward to!
- Yayoi Kusama Museum (There was an exhibit at the AGO this past year that was extremely popular)
- teamLab Planets TOKYO
- Ghibli Studio Museum
- Visit of the General Public to the Palace for the New Year Greeting
- This giant Gundam (Robot) (Full video) (Transformation Video), yeah I’m a nerd!
December 2018/January 2019
Below you will see our plans for visiting the various prefectures around Japan.
